The Incredible Past and Future of the Airship
Steampunking”. What does that mean? It sounds like a fusion of time periods that are neoclassical, with romantic ideals and attitudes. Basically, it is. The term attempts to describe an integration of past eras and ideals that appear lush, abundant and cluttered. Moving forward to the present, society has sought new ideals opposing these elevated tastes such as artistic, new technology (NT) inspired, ordered and continuous. These ideals describe the dirigible.
The Best Sports Fights of 2010
There's hardly a week that goes by when we don't post at least one video of players or fans coming to blows at a sporting event. For sports fans, these homemade viral-video gems are like YouTube crack: There's just something damn addicting (and amusing) about watching passionate grown men bicker and throw down in a stadium parking lot or upper deck like elementary school enemies coming to fisticuffs on the playground over the first pick in kickball. Regardless, we can confidently say that 2010 was a wild year for drunken bleacher brawls and intense physical altercations among professional athletes and the hooligans who love them. Among the highlights: Andre Johnson tried to KO Cortland Finnegan, a high school basketball player body-slammed a referee, pee-wee football dads clobbered each other in Texas, Oklahoma City Thunder center Nenad Krstic threw a chair at another player during an off-season tournament, and two Lingerie Football teams finally took the sport to where it needed to be by engaging each other in a bench-clearing brawl. Here's a look back at the best player and fan fights from this past year.

Finger Monkeys – Too Small To Be Real
Ever held a finger monkey before? What’s a finger monkey, you ask. Well, believe it or not, it’s a monkey the size of a human finger. They got their name because of their size and the fact that they cling to your fingers when you try to hold them. The planet’s smallest living primate, finger monkeys are also known as pocket monkeys or tiny lions.
Indigenous to the rain forests of Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Columbia (where they possibly export drugs to other finger monkeys), the common finger monkey can grow up to 14 inches. Don’t let a finger monkey’s looks fool you. Its claws are extremely sharp, and when a provoked, these pygmy marmosets can wreak havoc like you’ve never seen.
10 Reasons Why Men Are Better Than Women
A few weeks ago, the young lasses over at College Candy asked us if we'd like to engage in a friendly bout of he said–she said during our slow holiday weeks. In their email, they suggested that we delve into, and debate, the age-old topic of why one sex is better than the other. You know, men verses women, not vaginal verses anal. These broads must be delusional thinking they have a puncher's chance of winning this fight. You and I both know that there really doesn't need to be an entire debate or dueling articles to crown men the superior gender. But we'll do it anyway.

Sword of the Vikings
"Sword of the Vikings, like the heavy iron stick, recalled an era when tall blond warriors with bulging eyes were on their boats, like sea horses, half of the world - from the Caspian to America - leaving here in Scotland, not only the memory of themselves, but also a part of yourself. "
Vladimir Scherbakov. "The Scottish Tale."
In France they were called the Normans, in Russia - the Vikings. The Vikings - the so-called themselves the people who lived in what is now Norway, Denmark and Sweden, approximately from 800 to 1100 years BC.
Viking Age lasted quite a short period of time, something about 2 and a half centuries. 800-1050 gg BC, and to be more precise, from 793, when the monastery at Lindisfarne, is located near the northeast coast of England, became the object of attack the Vikings.
War and feasts - those are the two favorite classes Vikings. Rapid pirates on ships, wearing sonorous names, such as the "Bull of the ocean", "Raven Wind", raided the coast of England, Germany, Northern France and Belgium - and was taken to the conquered tribute. Their desperate warriors berserks fought like mad, even without armor. Before the battle berserks gnashed their teeth, biting the edge of boards. Cruel gods of the Vikings - aces were pleasing to the soldiers lost in battle.
The word "Viking" dates back to Old Norse "vikingr. Regarding its origin, a number of hypotheses, the most compelling of which raises it to the "Vic" - fjord, bay. The word "Viking" (lit. "man of the fjord") is used to indicate the robbers, who operated in coastal waters, hiding in the secluded coves and bays. In Scandinavia, they were known long before it gained notoriety in Europe.
Wherever the Vikings went - to the British Islands, France, Spain, Italy or North Africa - they ruthlessly plundered and seized the lands of others. In some cases, they settled in the conquered countries and became their rulers. Danish Vikings in a while to conquer England, settled in Scotland and Ireland. Together, they conquered part of France known as Normandy. Norwegian Vikings and their descendants created a colony on the islands of the North Atlantic - Iceland (the ancient language - "Ice Land") and Greenland (the "green land": if the climate there was warmer than now!) And established a settlement on the coast of Newfoundland in North America , however, was short-lived. Swedish Vikings began to dominate the eastern Baltic. They are widely spread across Russia and, descending the rivers to the Black and Caspian seas, even threatened Constantinople and parts of Persia. The Vikings were the last German barbarian conquerors and the first European explorers, pioneers.

What Stormtroopers Do On Their Day Off
Here is a fun photo project by Frenchman Stefan Le Du starring TK455 and TK479, Stormtroopers in the Galactic Empire Army. Star Wars stormtroopers might be the bloodthirsty clone soldiers of the Empire, but have you ever wondered what they do on their day off? Stormtroopers aren't fighting in battles every single day like you see in the Star Wars films. For last one year he had been taking a new photo a day of what Darth Vader's white-helmeted henchmen get up to in their spare time, and posting it on Flickr. Here is what they do when they have some free time.

The 20 Most Awesome Men of 2010
1. Steve Carell
The funnyman had an awesome year -- he starred in three hit movies: Date Night (with Tina Fey), Dinner For Schmucks (with Paul Rudd) and the animated flick, Despicable Me. He has a great ability to make everyone in all age groups laugh till their bellies hurt, which is why we're so sad this year marks his last season as "World's Best Boss," Michael Scott on The Office. The show, and our Thursday nights, won't be the same without him.
Intricate Eggshell Art
There are many exponents of the old art form that is egg decoration. Who could forget the bejeweled masterpieces created by Faberge for the Russian czars, for example? But the most intricate of these involves the unbelievably delicate skill of carving designs on egg shells, a practice so detailed and precise it beggars belief how those involved manage it.

Amazing Larger than Life Toy Sculptures
The holidays are all about children and toys, but one unconventional artist is taking toys into the realm of adulthood with astounding sculptures to amaze and amuse.
Nothing quite brings back childhood memories than reminiscing about those long-lost and long-forgotten favourite toys. From the teddy bear missing an arm to the toy cars with no wheels, once-loved toys and games always end up on the scrapheap.
British artist Robert Bradford is turning that idea on its head by creating life-sized or larger than life-sized sculptures from old and unwanted toys to recycle the joy of childhood into modern statement pieces of art.

Treat Your Man Like A Christmas Cookie
So, he's cute...kind of crunchy and exciting on the outside like when you two go to parties. Yet, when you're alone, he actually has a delicious little soft spot that's barely more childlike than it is poetic. You'd love to smother him in kisses every morning, but you know that would probably just make you look needy and overbearing, so how do you show him that you want him to stay without chasing him away? If you stay too far away, he's too cute, sociable and funny to not get scooped up by somebody else. If you jump ahead of yourself and stake a claim that he's not into dealing with, you could send him running. Here's my common knowledge on what makes a gingerbread man want to be simply your man:
Virtual Holiday Dinner Brings Families Together via Robot Proxies
Sometimes, it's just not possible to get your whole family together for the holidays. So why not bring avatars of family members together instead? Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam put together a clever recognition app that allows Skype callers to control custom-built mechanical dolls with head movements.

Flex Futurum – A length varying caterpillar train for 2040
Flex Futurum is the part of the diploma project of Elena Petrova and Konstantin Fedorov and the mechanical caterpillar is a fantasy, a modern vision of freight transport in 2040. And the most peculiar feature of Flex Futurum is a flexible length that varies from 7.5 to 20 meters, depending on the load the contraption is on.
With the varying length, the vehicle takes less space in the parking lot and has easier maneuvering in narrow passages.
Cultural Icons Recreated in Trash
We tend to think that garbage and unwanted materials are destined for the landfill, but from an artist's point of view, these unwanted materials could be turned into beautiful artworks. British artist Jane Perkins, for example, creates her artworks entirely from "unwanted materials". In fact, using recycled or re-used objects has become increasingly popular in today’s art world. The portrait of Mona Lisa above is completely made out of once unwanted materials.
Things Women Can Do That Guys Cannot
There are many things women can do that men just can't and the worst thing is, they just can't acknowledge that we are definitely the superior pole :) But, here are few things that are socially acceptable for heterosexual women to do, but not heterosexual men. Both men and women CAN do most of these things, but the social implications are what often stop men from doing the things on this list. Thanks to Ranker we got this interesting list.
Women Can Openly Own Toys For Pleasure
How many guys do you know that proudly own some toy? For various reasons, some biological and some psychological, women sometimes have more difficulty pleasuring themselves than men do, whereas most men are content with using their hands.
Although women don't usually flaunt their toys in public, and would be at least a little embarrassed when the said toys make a sudden appearance at an unprepared party, most social circles – and potential romantic partners – are pretty forgiving towards women who own toys for their own personal enjoyment.
Seems like a double-standard, doesn't it? Yes. It does. And it is one of the worst ones on this list. Because we are lonely.
Gluten-free Christmas cake pop afternoon
I got to spend a most delightful afternoon making gluten-free cake pops with Shauna (Gluten-free Girl) and Jessie (Cakespy) from Bakerella's Cake Pops book. We chatted and rolled and dipped them in chocolate and Jessie made these amazing characters using marzipan colored with food coloring.
Most Incredible Monster Trucks on Earth

The crazy world of monster trucks – those strange vehicles featuring large wheels and suspension systems placed underneath traditional pick-up bodies - is sometimes referred to as a mechanized version of professional wrestling. Certainly the two forms of all-American entertainment inspire larger-than-life personalities, superhero style names and are both wildly popular. Add to that the power rock chords and manic sounding commentary that resonate at races and car crushing events and it’s easy to see why the comparison is drawn. Monster truck fans dislike this image, however, and want to see it treated as a credible sport. For now, though, let’s take a look at the 10 most incredible monster trucks on earth.

Pop Icons Created out of Recycled Joint Roaches
“Creative way to dispose of roaches, man” Tommy Chong
Bob Marley, 16″ x 20″. All copyrights and reproduction rights remain with the artist
At first glance, they're just iconic head shots of famous people you've seen many times before; only the tones of golden brown make them vaguely remarkable: Jesus, John Lennon, Bob Marley, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Snoop Dog, Method Man, and more. A taste for rebellion, higher states of consciousness, and in most cases a trailblazing talent for music are about all that tie them together. Until closer inspection. Allow your eyes to move from the bigger picture and focus on the finer detail of the portraits, and the secret of their creation lights up in the mind: they're all mosaics – made out of the roach papers of smoked joints. Tune in for “Recycling on a Higher Level.”
Hello Kitty Painting Auctioned
If there was one field that I thought was safe from Hello Kitty mania, it was painting. But all my hopes were shattered when I stumbled across this $1.25 million artwork of the famous Japanese icon.
That’s right boys and girls, a painting of your favorite kitty is being auctioned off on eBay for the “bargain price” of just $1.25 million. And if you, by chance, think that’s too much, you should know the price has gone down from $1.5 million. I mean come on people, it’s not just any other Hello Kitty painting we’re talking about, this is in fact the world’s largest Hello Kitty painting, measuring 4 feet by 5 feet. The auction page reads “this would make a great gift for that little girl you love so much”, but unless they were referring to Paris Hilton’s dad, I doubt anyone will by this as a Christmas gift.
I don’t know if this matter to you or not, but the painting was done by American artist James Dillon Wright, also known as Dillon Boy.
Amazing Temples Around the World
More than a quarter of all people in the world belong to Eastern religions, which include Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Taoism. These people worship in temples, which are architecturally as diverse as the religions are different from each other. From the Gaudi’s Temple de la Sagrada Familia to the distinctly modern Baha’i Lotus Temple, 8 Amazing Temples Around the World.
Shwezigon Paya Zedi
The Shwezigon Paya (pagoda, stupa or zedi), was built during the reign of King Anawrahta (1044-1077) and is one of the Bagan area’s, and Myanmar’s, most significant religious structures. Located four miles northeast of Old Bagan, it served as a prototype for many later stupas built throughout Myanmar. The Shwezigon is also a major national center of worship. Pilgrims come from many parts of Myanmar for its festival held during the Burmese month of Nadaw (November/December) both because of its historic character and because of its religious significance for Burmese Buddhism. While the Shwezigon was one of the earliest symbols of the triumph of the ‘purified’ Theravada Buddhism, it was also the first pagoda to allow ‘nat’ images – pre-Buddhist spirits who had the power to do good or evil- within its walls.

Are You More Willing To Have A One-Night Stand On New Year’s Eve?
I’ve had a few one-night stands in my life. Don’t look so surprised! But I have never had a one-night stand on New Year’s Eve, which, according to a study conducted by “intimacy” products manufacture Wet (creative naming!), is the night the majority of women would have one. According to the study, 33 percent of women surveyed said they’d be more likely to have a one-nighter on New Year’s Eve than any other day. But why? Is it because they’re feeling more horny as the clock ticks down to midnight? More depressed and looking to soak up their sadness in the warm embrace of a stranger? More, well, drunk? Though I’ve never had a one-night stand on New Year’s Eve, I can’t write the holiday off as a total dud for my sex and love life—I met my ex-fiance at a New Year’s Eve party and we got engaged on New Year’s Eve four years later. If only he could have waited three and a half more months to dump me—we could have made New Year’s our break-up anniversary too! Ahh, well.
So, what about you, Frisky readers—whether you’ve had a one-night stand(s) before or not, would you be most likely to have one on New Year’s? Have you?

Unusual Christmas Tree
The wonderful decorated and lighted Christmas tree has become an iconic symbol of the Christmas spirit all over the world. There are so many legends concerning the origins of decorating the evergreen tree. One of these legends recounts how Martin Luther was struck by the beauty of some small evergreens while walking through a snow-covered forest. Dusted with snow, the entire landscape was sparkling in the moonlight like an endless ocean twinkling. Martin Luther was so impressed and inspired by the breathtaking scene, that he cut down a fir-tree, brought it home and decorated its branches with lighted candles. That’s why it is believed that the founder of the Lutheran Church was the first to light a Christmas tree.
A traditional Christmas tree is ideal if you have small children, but if traditional Christmas trees are not really your thing, check out these Top 10 most unusual and creative Christmas ‘trees’:

Scenes of Vintage Paris
It’s hard not to be enamored by the city of Paris – its history, beauty and mystique will inevitably make Paris one of your most fondly remembered landscapes, one you look back on like a former cherished lover, with regret and awe. Of course the feeling is multiplied in pictures and in some way this may be why it’s magical in the first place, because you ache for its gestalt when you’re not there. Either way, it’s these things that bring Paris and her visitors together and its why the images like those below feel so good to look upon. I’ve assembled a small collection of photos and prints to perpetuate the Parisian mythos, photos from around the turn of the century and before, that time period that really defined the feeling you get when you think about Paris, be it true or completely fabricated by your dreaded sentimentality.
Sculptures Made of Chewing Gum
Italian artist Maurizio Savini has distinguished himself by using a very unusual material for his sculptures: pink chewing gum. Here are some of his works.
Over the last 10 years Italian artist Maurizio Savini has been creating a series of sculptures using thousands of pieces of chewing gum. The life size sculptures include a buffalo, a grizzly bear and suited businessmen suspended in gymnastic poses. His works have been exhibited internationally and some of his pieces have sold for approximately 55 000USD. They have recently been shown at testori UK gallery, London.
Chewing-gum, as a matter of fact known in Italian also as “ American gum “, was introduced by American soldiers with the end of World war two together with jeans, nylon, stocking and boggie-woggie. Its association with a state of euphoria of change and carefree youthfulness some how carried on in the following decades. Also for those born in the sixties as Maurizio Savini and I, chewing-gum reaches in the mind ‘s meanders at a tie with childhood and adolescence, and a light pressure of a future still to be built and dreamt and the slaughterhouse of personal and collective memories of the past which is gone, no one knows where when and with whom.

Austria demands Serbia buy it a complete new suit because there are splashes on its trouser leg.
Germany expresses its support for Austria’s point of view.

15 Ways to Hack Your Brain for a Better Life
...For answer Holmes clapped the hat upon his head. It came right over the forehead and settled upon the bridge of his nose. "It is a question of cubic capacity, " said he; "a man with so large a brain must have something in it. " ... Sherlock Holmes - The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle.
Not everyone is born with a big brain. Not everyone can say things like ‘Elementary, my dear Watson’ with a straight face. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get an edge on the competition. Remember that scene from the Matrix, where the machines are using humans as disposable AA batteries? That’s not far off the mark. With over 100 billion neurons, your brain produces about 100 Watts of raw energy. The mind literally has a life of its own. And like your other muscles, the more you use it, the bigger it gets, the better it works.
If you’re looking to improve mental cognition, increase your memory, and enhance your alertness, here are 15 easy ways to give your brain a six-pack.
1. Exercise: You knew it was good for your muscles, but the brain? Absolutely! More than 20% of the body’s blood and oxygen go directly to the brain (without passing GO or paying $200). Exercise, particularly cardio training, effectively increases the flow to the brain, keeping it a well-oiled machine. But if you’d like something a little more Zen, try Yoga. Many of the Yoga poses, like Downward Facing Dog, are specifically engineered to get blood to your brain faster, by positioning the head below the heart. But if you’re really pressed for time, something as simple as opening a window and getting fresh air can give your brain the extra juice it needs.

Mindblowing Artistry of Marvelous Tattoos
Decorated the body has been a habit of humanity for thousands of years, and these decorations can be artistic enough to leave the onlooker gasping in amazement. Often the wearer of the tattoos is making a statement of some sort. Indeed, the very word tattoo is said to stem from the Polynesian word ‘ta’ meaning ‘striking something’ and Tahitian word ‘tatau’ meaning ‘to mark something’.

The Amazing 8-Bit Characters
I love how Belgian designer Kristof Saelen takes on a theme and then creates these mini-pixel characters to fit within it. So far, his pixel portraits include the Sopranos, Michael Jackson, Star Wars characters, and my personal favourite, a set of 80s TV heroes. Have a look at them and tell us who is your favourite.

"As a product of the 80s, I feel nostalgic about a lot of stuff from that era. Including the old computer games like King's Quest, Indiana Jones and Leisure Suit Larry. I've always been fascinated by the way real life elements can be represented in a very small miniature size. Back in 2003 or so, when the company I work for asked me to design their new business cards, I thought it would be fun to draw a pixel version of each employee. It was my first challenge to create tiny but recognizable faces. While new people came in over the years, I maintained to create a pixel version for all of them." - said Kristof.
